Virginia Islands on the Air for VAQP
I have asked the organizers of the Virginia QSO Party to consider adding Islands to Multiplier list to reward folks who activate more remote parts of Virginia furthering the VAQP goal of putting Virginia on the air.
Reason:
The one island that brought attention to this desire is Tangier Island in the Chesapeake Bay. It seems a shame to just include this unique island in the Chesapeake Bay in its county when it has a good geographic reason to be its own multiplier.
Islands to include:
One possible list of Islands comes from the Virginia State Group of IOTA NA-083. This list includes:
- (ASA) Assateague (the Virginia Portion)
- (CED) Cedar Island
- (CHI) Chincoteague – (Outside Chesapeake Bay) – although one could argue this is already covered since this is an independent city and, within the boundaries of the city, is its own multiplier
- (CIB) Cobb – (Outside Chesapeake Bay)
- (FSH) Fishermans – (Outside Chesapeake Bay)
- (GFO) Great Fox – (Inside Chesapeake Bay)
- (HOG) Hog – (Outside Chesapeake Bay)
- (MET) Metompkin Island
- (PAR) Parramore Island
- (SMI) Smith Island (the Virginia Portion)
- (TGR) Tangier – (Inside Chesapeake Bay)
- (WTS) Watts – (Inside Chesapeake Bay)
- (WRE) Wreck – (Outside Chesapeake Bay)
These islands appear to have population; Population could be one criterion for including an island.
