FAQ VAQP VHF Frequencies

Question:
The rules give suggested frequencies for use — during a contest is it normal for all (or most) contacts to be made on these frequencies (at least in the VHF/UHF part of the spectrum), or do folks jump around? If there is a range of frequencies that are used, I’ll pre-program the radios to be able to quickly scan those sections of the bands.

Answer:
For the FM portion of the band, the answer is yes, they do hang around near the suggested frequencies. Operators will spread around a bit so they don’t call CQ on top of each other.

Don’t transmit on 146.520 though. This is a special call frequency that contests avoid.

Also find a chart showing the band plan for the 2M, 1.25M and 70cm bands so you don’t wander up or down into the repeater frequencies; They are pretty close by.

During the contest listen a bit and you will get the idea.
